Feast of Richard Biggs (May 22)   Leave a comment

Actor; died in 2004

Richard James Biggs II (1960-2004) was perhaps best known for his role as Dr. Stephen Franklin on Babylon 5 (1994-1998).  Certain facts are not common knowledge, however.  For example, he charged fees for autographs at science fiction conventions then donated all proceeds to a school for the hearing impaired in Orange County, California.

Also, the following statement of Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski, issued upon the actor’s death, says much:

This is a terrible loss for all of us. Richard was a consummate professional but more than that he was an honorable, stand-up guy. If he gave you his word on something, you never had to wonder about it afterward. He was always helpful and supportive of all the cast, even those who only came in for one episode, always with a ready smile and determined to do whatever it took to make the scene work. He was, quite simply, a terrific guy, and everyone here is just devastated at the news.

Almighty God, beautiful in majesty, majestic in holiness: You have shown us the splendor of creation in the work of your servant Richard Biggs.  Teach us to drive from the world all chaos and disorder, that our eyes may behold your glory, and that at last everyone may know the inexhaustible richness of your new creation in Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
